The Elixir of Love

Romance, rivalry and a touch of magic come together in this timeless operatic comedy. The story follows the lovable but awkward Nemorino who is hopelessly in love with the beautiful Adina. Fearing that she is out of his reach, he turns to a mysterious elixir to win her heart.

But little does Nemorino know that his “magic potion” is nothing more than a bottle of cheap wine, sold to him by the cunning (and somewhat eccentric) travelling doctor, Dulcamara. As Nemorino’s confidence grows, so does the confusion leading to a series of funny and touching twists and turns. With its engaging characters, delightful humour and vibrant score, The Elixir of Love has charmed audiences worldwide since its premiere in 1832.

Will Nemorino’s “love potion” work its magic or will Adina choose the boastful Sergeant Belcore instead? Full of beautiful arias (including the famous “Una furtiva lagrima”) and lively ensemble numbers, The Elixir of Love is a story of true love, self-belief and the surprising power of persistence.
